Montreal, September 24, 2018 – The Montreal Association for the Intellectually Handicapped (MAIH) is proud to announce the results of the first edition of the MAIH RBC Challenge held last Saturday as part of the ROCK’N’ROLL Montreal Marathon .
The 54 participants who runned or walked 5 km were able to raise $ 10,864 for the Broaden Your Horizons program of the MAIH. This will more specifically reduce the costs of a stay in New York in April 2019 for several members of the association. That is why we would like to warmly thank all the participants and RBC, who accompanied us in this Challenge by involving many employees who made the 5 km for the MAIH !
In addition, 10 people with intellectual disabilities – some of whom will travel to New York – took part in the race and took up the challenge; a beautiful example of surpassing oneself.
“This is the first edition of the MAIH RBC Challenge and the event was a success. This day raised a lot of money for the Broaden Your Horizons program of the MAIH, but it also gave us a rallying and festive time with our members and with people who care about our cause”, said Sylvie Tremblay, Executive Director of the MAIH. “In addition, it is a time when we can be visible to a large number of people, but also to overcome prejudices about intellectual disability. ”
Watch for AMDI news for a next edition in 2019 and join the Challenge!
Founded in 1935, the MAIH promotes the social participation of adults with intellectual disabilities and provides support services to families. Serving close to 700 members, its self-help, family support and awareness projects are diverse: family camps, training workshops, trips, family outings, and more!
