Did you know people living with an intellectual disability are more at risk to be sexually assaulted?

Consentement, which will be presented at the Janine Sutto Theatre Evening, deals with a history of rape, which was first tackled lightly and then, more and more, the notion of consent disrupts the situation. A topic at the heart of the news of recent months and which is even more crucial for people living with an intellectual disability.

In 90% of cases of sexual assault of these people, the perpetrator is known to the victim. At our level, what we can do is participate in the prevention role by explaining the concept of consent. As discussed in the play, this notion may appear hazy or unclear and is often at the heart of rape trials. It is therefore essential to empower people living with intellectual disabilities to say NO. Through our workshops It’s Not Always Easy to Talk About Sexuality offered during one session per year, we discuss consent, as well as relationships and sexuality. In the fall of 2018, we also gave our members the opportunity to register for It’s Not Always Easy to say no, workshops that allow our members to assert themselves and increase their self-esteem. while having confidence in yourself.

To support the work of the MAIG and discover this play that concerns us all, book your ticket for the Janine Sutto Theatre Evening which will take place on Tuesday, January 29th at the Théâtre Jean Duceppe.
